About

Julie Lenora Parsons

Julie is an artist and designer who has been a closet writer all her life. She is no stranger to imaginings, but it is her work in design for performance where she learnt to apply her investigative principles to the realisation of theatre productions. Curiosity led to an interest in the history of performance and finally to the completion of a Masters thesis on the Harlequin at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Illustration work has been a constant throughout Julie’s career in the arts, with commissions in costume and set design, illustrations for books, tapestries, programmes, catalogues, invitations etc as well as painted images used as projections in performance.

Julie’s arts practice in public art, the visual arts and design for performance enables her to apply her wealth of knowledge and experience across all these disciplines. She has been an art lecturer at the South Regional College, Central Institute of Technology, Edith Cowan University and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Julie’s achievements are cited in arts publications such as Artlink, Craftswest, A Dictionary of Women Artists in Australia, Who’s Who of Australian Visual Artists, and A Spirited Place. Julie has held a number of artist in residence positions, the last of which was at the International Art Space in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Julie has work in private and public art collections in Australia and overseas.
